Voluntary Disclosure of Tax Errors in Nigeria

Mistakes happen—but in 2026, the NRS is offering a ‘Golden Bridge’ for businesses to fix them. The Voluntary Disclosure Program (VDP) allows taxpayers to report previously undisclosed income or errors in past filings in exchange for a full waiver of penalties and interest.

The 2026 VDP Rules

  • Waiver Window: Penalty waivers are available for disclosures made before June 2026.
  • Full Disclosure: You must provide a complete, ‘frank’ account of the error. Partial disclosures that are later found to be incomplete will void the protection.
  • Payment Plan: Once the error is accepted, you can negotiate a structured payment plan for the principal tax amount.

By coming forward voluntarily, you avoid the risk of a Tax Investigation. To start the process, log in to TaxPro Max and select the ‘Voluntary Disclosure’ tab. For more advice, check PwC Nigeria or the NRS portal.”
